Regular Hours in Effect
In accordance with the decision of Chief Justice Ron George to keep
the California courts open for business on Friday, June 11, 2004 (The
Day of Remembrance for President Ronald Reagan), the San Diego County
Public Law Library will remain open tomorrow as well.
The
Administrative Office of the Courts
has issued the following statement: "We have received questions from
a number of you about the effect on the courts of President Bush's
Executive Order
and Governor Schwarzenegger's
Proclamation
designating Friday, June 11, as a day of remembrance for former
President Reagan. Under California law, those actions do not make
June 11 a judicial holiday. (Government Code Section 6700 provides a
list of state holidays. It includes 'every day appointed by the
President or Governor for a public fast, thanksgiving, or holiday.'
Cal. C.C.P. ? 135 on judicial holidays follows ? 6700.)
Additionally, the Governor's office has informed us that the
proclamation, a copy of which is attached, specifically uses the term
'day of remembrance' so as not to create a holiday or to cause the
closure of courts. Therefore, courts shall remain open."
Federal, state, county and San Diego city offices will be
closed
tomorrow. City offices in Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, El Cajon and
Vista also will close tomorrow. Poway's city offices will close at
noon.
